Glencoe
Entering Glencoe still has the power to stir an emotional response to what has become known as "The Massacre of Glencoe."
Caught up in a dynastic struggle between the Stuarts, and a bigger plot to destroy the clan system, in winter of 1692, Hanovarian troops under the Earl of Argyll's Regiment of Foot, which consisted of approximately 120 men under the command of Captain Robert Campbell of Glenlyon, were given the order to kill men, women and children of the MacDonald clan after having enjoyed their hospitality!
Even today Campbells are not welcome at the local inn.
